Summer in the Cascade Siskiyou is brief. Butterflies rush, skipping from one shallow prairie to the next, hidden between deep pools of forest. Among the arid mountain cliffs, the rabbitbrush is blooming.
An important insect in this piece is the Chalybion californicum, the Blue Mud Dauber also known as the Black Widow Wasp. The yellow flowers are Ericameria nauseosa, aka rubber rabbitbrush.
